In more than 20 years’ use in aesthetic medicine there has not been a single death attributed to Botox, but it is still important to remember that it is a prescription-only medicine, so qualifications should always be checked. In other words research your cosmetic surgeon and/or nurse practitioners. Are they fully accredited and trained in the UK? All our surgeons at Cosmetic Surgery Partners are British trained and registered on the specialist register.
Firstly, you will be asked to move your facial muscles to allow assessment of your individual wrinkle characteristics. The skin will then be cleansed and an extremely fine needle used to inject the Botox. Whilst it does sting momentarily, the sensation passes rapidly and pressure will be applied. The whole process normally takes 10 – 15 minutes and you may have some slightly reddened and swollen areas around the injection sites that will settle within the hour.
The Sculptra process is very gradual, and gives a more natural looking appearance without giving the game away. Unlike other ‘dermal fillers’ which simply get injected to plump and smooth certain areas of the face, Sculptra is what our surgeons refer to as a ‘bio-stimulator’, which promotes the growth of naturally occurring collagen.
Patients will undergo a series of treatments – an average of 3 injection sessions with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks between each session. The results of Sculptra can last for more than 2 years
